Book Review: Gut By Giulia Enders

Book Review: Gut By Giulia Enders

I recently read Gut, The inside story of our body’s most under-rated organ, after a client recommended it to me.

I wonder if Giulia, a German working on her Ph.D in Gastroenterology, intended the book to be HILARIOUSLY funny because I found myself laughing on many occasions and that’s strange given the topic. The illustrations are equally hilarious! On a side note, her sister is the illustrator.

Few of us know just how very important a role the gut plays in our body and it’s an often overlook section of our body. It’s basically our second brain and so much that we can’t feel is going on down there. Giulia undertook her research into the gut based on her own illness. I find people are so much more connected to a topic (the body in this case) when it’s actually affecting them personally. Her message is rather simple: if we treat our gut well, it will treat us well.

If health and wellbeing is important to you this is a must read (I’m a sucker for any body/health related). Gut is presented in such a no nonsense yet informative way with many “I can’t believe I didn’t know that about my own body” moments. Also if you experience your own gut issues it will help you navigate where to go from here and choose alternatives.

In 2012, her presentation of Gut won her first prize at the Science Slam in Berlin, and went viral on YouTube. Here’s a little snippet about the book

Definitely a thumbs up from me!
